The ScaleUp Accelerator helps scaling tech (often B2B SaaS) companies prepare for strong growth and Series A funding. This support is delivered in a virtual setting in order to support scaleups during these unprecedented times.

The ScaleUp Accelerator overview

The ScaleUp Accelerator has adapted its in-person growth and VC readiness programme to our current remote working practices, and as such has made all of its growth training keynotes, expert sessions, VC tips and mentoring elements, along with exited entrepreneurs available online.

The ScaleUp Accelerator is the perfect 6-month virtual programme for CEOs and founders to develop a credible plan and investor proposition to raise their Series A and grow to £10m and beyond.

We support UK based tech companies who are currently at ~£40k MRR and growing.

The ScaleUp Accelerator leverages nearly a decade of expertise by The Accelerator Network team delivering programmes and our partner White Horse Capital being embedded in the VC community, securing over £350m+ of funding.

Accepted Applicants

You will participate in a 6-month programme of training, mentoring and support virtually. The format is live, with scheduled sessions across each sprint (half a day each week over 6 weeks) of interactive online sessions to participate in as a cohort, plus 1:1 video call support discussion for application of the learning into your scaleup.

This ensures you have a clear awareness of the activities that will help you scale, and attract the necessary growth funding. 

The programme dives into the key areas of your business supported by experts and investors, plus 1:1 feedback on growth strategy, sales plans, marketing, legals and finance from some of London’s leading scaleup experts. Thereafter, we continue to provide guidance on business plans and financial models, concluding with highly-curated virtual investor presentations. 

Uniquely post-pitching is followed by comprehensive 1:1 support to help you structure and close your VC round.

No upfront fees. No equity commitment. We are your exclusive fundraising partner, subject to a 5% contingent success fee on completion of Series A funding round (within 12 months of the last Investor Event).

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

6-month virtual programme of training, mentoring and support, starting with 6 half a day deep dives delivered in the first 6 weeks accompanied by continuous 1:1 support.  

The format is live, with scheduled sessions across each half day sprint, with around 5 hours of interactive online sessions to participate in as a cohort, plus 1:1 video call support to discuss the application of the learning into your scaleup. Ian Merricks

Since 1996 Ian has started, scaled and exited a number of businesses. He has supported many others to scale, through seed, Series A and B stages, via M&A and IPO, raising £350m+ for scaleups. As Chair of The Accelerator Network he has supported 1,000+ startups & scaleups across 50+ accelerators.

He is an ambassador for The ScaleUp Institute, he judges the ScaleUp Category for The Great British Entrepreneur Awards and he co-organised the first UK ScaleUp Conference, with Coutts. In 2018 he developed the ‘Raise VC’ investor readiness programme with PwC, since helping 32 scaleups prepare for VC funding.

He remains an active investor with 15 investees including Launchpad Recruits, Twizoo (sold to Skyscanner) and Awen Collective (Top20 UK Cyber scaleup). Ian directly oversees The ScaleUp Accelerator and 1:1 mentoring for all participants.

Duncan, Head of Cohort Investment, is an exited entrepreneur who most recently turned his focus to supporting scaleup stage companies on their growth and investment strategy. He ensures the companies on the programme are connecting with the right investors, and will be at your side to support the entire investment process.

He has worked for more than 25 years in B2B enterprise business in Australia, Asia, Europe, UK and the US. Duncan co-founded and managed 2 businesses for 15 years. Most recently as the CEO and CTO of MyCognition, a disruptive HealthTech startup.

Previously, Duncan co-founded BizCarta Australia, an IT services consulting firm, which specialised in working with blue-chip organisations. Duncan developed BizCarta Australia from start-up through to sale. Duncan served on the board of the Sydney chapter of the Entrepreneurs Organisation for 3 years and has been a technology advisor to a number of companies involved in M&A activities.

Piers Linney

Piers Linney

Piers, Entrepreneur-In-Residence, is an experienced entrepreneur, founder, adviser, director and investor with a law and investment banking background in the City. He has founded and exited several technology and communication businesses.

He is a well-known champion of entrepreneurship, startups and SMEs having been an investor on Dragons’ Den (2013-2015), making one of the show’s most successful investments in Google Ventures backed tech startup, Wonderbly.

Piers won the inaugural Entrepreneur of the Year award at the EY Sponsored Black British Business Award and was recognised in 2019 by the Financial Times as one of the UK’s top 100 most influential BAME leaders in the Tech Sector. He is a Non-Executive Director of the UK government-owned economic development bank, British Business Bank, which has facilitated over £12 billion of funding for UK SMEs. He sat on the Board of TechUK and was a Trustee of the leading innovation foundation, Nesta.

Clarelisa Camilleri

Clarelisa, Programme Operations Manager, ensures the smooth running of The Scaleup Accelerator for scaleups raising Series A, alongside other key programmes from The Accelerator Network: Accelerator Academy for startups raising seed funding, FastForward Pre-Accelerator, and Cyber 101. She is responsible for selecting the companies, managing the delivery of the programmes and establishing strategic relationships with the companies, experts and mentors.

Clarelisa previously worked in a European Network of business innovation centres (EU BICs) for over 5 years, coordinating the certification process of about 150 global incubators according to European quality standards. During this time she also managed multi-stakeholder programmes across a wide range of sectors, such as a three-year programme (FIBIA) funded by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation to stimulate inclusive entrepreneurship at European level.

Clarelisa is Italian-Venezuelan and graduated with a masters degree from the Imperial College Business School in 2013.

Amy, Marketing & Community Engagement Manager, shares stories of inspiring founders and investment successes to champion engagement with diverse tech entrepreneurs and further collaborative synergy with our ecosystem partners. She comes from a background across travel, fashion and retail intersecting tech in UK, US, and Asia growing lifestyle brands with roles and consulting projects for clients in design, product, strategy and digital.

Experienced with accelerators startup side as early team at Safe & The City street-smarts navigation app and consultant to connected clothing mcommerce app. She is part of Tech London Advocates RetailTech team curating events featuring startup disruptors and industry insight and discussion. Advocate of tech inclusion previously at not-for-profit VR Diversity Initiative.

Amy was right hand to founders of multi-brand accessories company later acquired by Li & Fung in $300m deal. Between London and NY, Amy was an entrepreneur in 2 Bali lifestyle businesses in fashion and surf.
